Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the highest-streamed tune within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought people back to this genre, but also to Latin music as a whole. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two songs from 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 19 songs mostly in Spanish reached into the Top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix from Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians quickly began to collaborate with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma for Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton artists were complaining about the direction of the genre toward the mainstream. But, the younger generation Rauw Alejandro, wanted to push forward the progression. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music, as well as different types.
